Nancy Epstein, MD

Dr. Epstein is a neurosurgeon practicing in Nassau County for over 23 years as part of Long Island Neurosurgical Associates P.C. She grew up in Nassau County, attended Barnard College (Columbia University B.A.) from 1968-1972, and attended Medical School at Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons (1972-1976). She did her internship in General Surgery and residency in neurosurgery at New York University Hospital and Bellevue Medical Center in New York City (1976-December 1981) where she trained under the legendary neurosurgeon, Dr. Joseph Ransohoff.
She passed her boards in Neurological Surgery in May of 1984, becoming the 12th board certified woman in neurosurgery. She has been in practice with Long Island Neurosurgical Associates since 1982, an organization incorporated by her father Dr. Joseph Epstein in 1972. She has performed all types of neurosurgical procedures since 1982, but as of 1993, has confined her practice to spinal neurosurgery. She is now the President of Long Island Neurosurgical Associates.
Dr. Epstein has over 165 publications and is a member of the editorial boards of 6 major spine journals: Spine, Journal of Spinal Disorders, The Spine Journal, Surgical Neurology, Spinal Surgery (Japan), Spinal Cord (England). She is a Clinical Professor of Neurological Surgery at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. She was the Chief of Neurosurgery for 10 years at North Shore University Hospital (Manhasset) from 1991-2001. She is now the Chief of Neurosurgical Spine and Education at Winthrop University Hospital (Mineola). At Winthrop, she has access to a dedicated neurosurgical operating room and a 14 bed Neurosurgical Intensive Care Unit/Step Down Unit.
